Figure Your Handicap
September 10, 2007Now that you’ve had a chance to see Golf Swing Eureka in action, (WHAT! you haven’t bought Golf Swing Eureka yet? What are you waiting for??) what do you do now that your dropping strokes in your game? You figure your handicap. Don’t know how to figure your handicap? I’m going to show you how to do it now, manually (keep checking back, I will soon have a handicap program available for you to use).
Why would you want to figure your handicap? Your handicap allows you to measure yourself against the course you just played. Also, keep in mind, as you get better, you may want to enter some tournaments and if so, you need an official USGA handicap to be able to enter.
Also, for the most simple reason, it’s to help level the playing field when playing against another handicap golfer. For example, a 6 handicap golfer plays a 15 handicap golfer. At then end of the round, the 6 handicap deducts 6 strokes from his game, likewise for the 15 handicap golfer. This gives a truer measure of play between the two players.
Figuring out your handicap is not that hard. It may look like it at first, but trust me, it’s not. There’s really only 3 simple steps to follow to get your handicap. Now, if you want an official handicap from the USGA, you need to turn in a minimum of 12 scores to an official golf club for review. The club will forward your scores to the USGA and the USGA will in turn, send you your handicap.
Now, on to figuring your handicap manually.
Step One is to figure your differential - you do this by taking your finished round score after figuring in any unfinished holes, penalties or conceded strokes, and subtract the course rating (found on the scorecard, for each color of tee). The course rating is given in decimal form, like 71.5 - the result is your differential.
Step Two is to figure the adjusted differential - divide the differential by the slope of the tees played (again found on your scorecard) and multiply by 113, this gives you the adjusted differential
Step Three gives you your handicap - using the lowest 10 of your last 20 adjusted differentials, added together and multiplied by 96%. Divide this result by 10 and round to the nearest whole number. You now have your handicap. The lower your handicap, the better golfer you are.
Don’t let a high handicap discourage you from going out and enjoying a game of golf. Just remember, it’s easy to get a handicap, but harder to lower it. Golf Swing Eureka is just what you need to help lower your handicap, simplifiy your game and enjoy your next round of golf more.
UPDATE 10-3-07
Now that you know how to figure your handicap manually, here’s something of interest for you.
I have come across a very cool website that allows you to enter and save your scores from each round you play and track your handicap and keep it up to date. It can be found at http://www.mygolfrecord.com This is very easy to set up, has a LOT of courses already in it, if the course you want is not there, it’s simple to add it. Check it out.
